The health food chain Flax & Kale has closed a €21.7 million financing round to internationalise its kombucha, a fermented drink, and grow in supermarkets through the private label. The firm has brought in investors such as Javier Rubió (Galdana Ventures), Dídac Lee and the Botet family (founder of Caprabo), which has been advised by Across Legal.
With this capital injection, Flax & Kale’s expansion will focus on the kombucha and ready meal business, whether vegan or omnivorous. The fermented beverage is, however, its main avenue for growth. The company expects to start marketing its product in the UK, the Netherlands and France in the coming months. In addition, it will boost production at its plant in Bell-lloc d’Urgell (Lleida), as well as at its factory in Fraga (Huesca).
