Impact Bridge has invested €1 million in Fundeen, a co-investment platform for energy transition and climate change projects that covers the entire value chain of the sector. The transaction, which was carried out through its ‘IB Deuda Impacto España’ fund, was advised by Across Legal, with a team consisting of Sarah Schwartz, Ignacio Montoya, Clara Bernardí, and Cristina Sánchez.
The transaction provides for an additional investment of €10 million in co-financed projects in 2025 through its platform. In addition, there is the possibility of promoting additional co-investment projects as new opportunities arise. The agreement also includes a commitment by Fundeen to comply with certain impact covenants, which reinforce the joint agreement to generate tangible social and environmental impact. For its part, Impact Bridge has linked the interest rate on the loan to the fulfillment of these commitments.
The investment is part of a European regulatory context that promotes citizen participation in energy projects, where different jurisdictions require that at least 20% of investments come from local citizens.
Fundeen has positioned itself in the Spanish energy sector thanks to its innovative use of crowdfunding and the technological development of its own platform. Since its launch in 2017, it has enabled investors of all sizes to finance renewable energy projects, overcome technical and financial barriers, and close the financing gap that affects many smaller-scale projects.
Maria Samoilova, fund manager and managing partner at Impact Bridge, said: “Impact Bridge’s investment will drive Fundeen’s growth, enabling it to expand its impact and consolidate its position as a leader in participatory financing in Spain and Europe. Fundeen has committed to investing €100 million locally by 2030.”
